History:

A linctus can be defined as a medicinal syrup that coats the mucous membranes of the throat. Pretty much it means medicated cough syrup, like Robotussin or Sudafed.

Turnip Linctus has been around as a medicated syrup since the Greeks. While the syrup soothes the throat, it will also promote expectoration.

So remember that even though you purchase a box every week for the needs of nutritional value, there may be items that you can utilize for medicinal purposes as well.
